Solid Wood Flooring In Nanaimo, BC.
To achieve a real wood floor we recommend raw site finished hardwood flooring. Typically 3/4 inch(19mm) thick, solid wood floors are permanently fixed to a level subfloor such as plywood. Solid hardwood floors can be directly fixed to concrete sub floors with adhesives. Once installed, we finely sand and polish the wood floor then apply a floor finishing system that can be customised to suit individual preferences. Site finished wood floors can be customised using stains, effects and sealers creating a unique look for both residential homes and commercial properties. Hardwood floors are guaranteed up to a life time and can be sanded and refinished several times.
Engineered Wood Flooring In Nanaimo, BC.
Manufactured using layers of wood glued together with the grain alternating and a hardwood veneer on top. These floors are eco-friendly, available in many species, and can be installed in areas that solid wood floors are not recommended. Although it may be possible to recoat engineered wood floors with 2mm(2/16 inches) we recommend our range of 4mm veneer engineered wood flooring that can be sanded and refinished.
Vinyl Plank Flooring In Nanaimo, BC.
In situations where solid and engineered wood flooring cannot be installed, we recommend vinyl plank flooring which are a quality affordable solution. Unlike other wood floors, vinyl plank floors can be installed over unlevel subfloors and below grade areas. If needed, vinyl planks can also be individually removed and replaced in the event of damage. Vinyl plank floors are a cost effective real wood look alternative to other wood flooring in Nanaimo, BC.

This may include base board removal/installation, existing floor removal, disposal or floor levelling.
What if my floor is unlevel?
One of the most important and often overlooked factors when choosing a wood floor is if the existing subfloor is level? A sub-floor is the original floor that was laid in construction. This can be either concrete, plywood or even floorboards? If choosing to install a new wood floor over the top of these original floors it is critical to establish how level the floor is? If the floor is uneven(more than 1/8 inch over an 8 foot area) a professional contractor must correct this before laying. Manufacturers of solid, engineered, and floating floors will not warranty their flooring products when laid over an unlevel surface. In the instance of a concrete or plywood subfloor, the unlevel areas must be leveled prior to installation. For more information on whether your floor is level enough to install a wood floor, a site inspection must be carried out. Contact us for an inspection.

Wood floor cost?
The cost to install a new wood floor will vary depending on the product, size of the area, and any extras such as underlay, trims and nosing. Vancouver Island Floor Finishing offer free online estimates for supply and installation when supplied with a floor plan or room measurements and the type of product that is to be installed. The cost to install an engineered floating floor or vinyl plank flooring is the cheapest option for installations as these floors do not required glue or adhesives when installing. Solid wood floors including pre finished solid wood floors are the most expensive as they require an experienced professional to install correctly. Moisture and humidity readings must be stabilised within the wood product and area where the flooring is to be installed. Solid wood floors that are site finished are a premium product that we specialise in. These floors offer a true hardwood floor look and feel and will last a lifetime, if not longer.
A real wood floor?
A real wooden floor look can be achieved in any situation. The best wood flooring is solid hardwood as it is fixed to the floor and finished on site. In areas that are unlevel or subjected to higher levels of moisture and humidity such as basements, we suggest installing a floating engineered floor with an acoustical moisture barrier underneath. For a cost effective wood floor look on uneven flooring or in condos and retail stores, vinyl plank flooring is a good option. Vinyl plank floors are durable, water proof, and relatively quick to install in comparison to other wood floor products.
How long do wood floors last?
Vancouver Island Floor Finishing upholds the warrantees offered by manufacturers. Most wood flooring products come with a 25 year guarantee. This means as long as installation guidelines are followed, your wooden floor will perform as intended for many years. The warrantees offered by manufacturers generally relate to the construction of the floor and not the finish on the surface. As most floors will show signs of wear over time including scratches and dents, these are not covered by warranties. For this reason, we always recommend a site finished solid wood floor or pre finished hardwood floor. These floors are permanently fixed to the subfloor and can be sanded and refinished multiple times.
